Yes salt disappears from sight, but it's not really gone at all.
Science rule: Conservation of mass - Matter can not be created or destroyed. Matter is anything that has mass and volume. Only a complete vacuum contains no matter. Common table salt is made up of atoms of sodium and chlorine to give the chemical name sodium chloride NaCl. When salt is stirred in to water and 'disappears', it actually breaks up into it's individual atoms. Each of these are surrounded by water. Atoms are tiny so you can't see them but they are still there. So if your weigh the salt and water separately and when mixed together, they will have the same mass.
